Swiss chard is an edible member of the rhubarb family. Recent research has shown that chard leaves contain at least 13 antioxidants, including kaempferol, which supports heart function. It also has phytonutrients that have been shown to regulate blood sugar. Chard is also a unique source of phytonutrients called betalains, known for supporting detoxification. It’s a super source of Vitamin K, which helps regulate the body’s inflammatory process, as well as Vitamin A, beta-carotene, manganese, copper and manganese.
However, chard also contains oxalates, so we steam our heirloom chard, specifically bred for its red color, to remove these anti-nutrients. The varieties in our powder include Fordhook Giant and Rainbow Chard.
Chard, like kale, adds bright and grassy notes to some foods, though its flavor can be undetectable when folded into more strongly flavored foods. To use, sprinkle on salads, eggs, rice and quinoa, buttered popcorn, steamed or roasted vegetables, fish or chicken. Add to smoothies, soups, stews, pasta, spaghetti sauce – really, anything you enjoy eating! Our favorite way to use Swiss Chard Powder is added, along with two or three other powders, to coconut-oil infused brown rice.
We recommend adding this powder to your empty Miron jar as soon as possible to increase its longevity.
