Nutty Nasi Goreng (Indonesian Fried Rice)
This Indonesian inspired dish is a deliciously fragrant stir-fried rice. Made with warm aromatic spices such as turmeric, nutmeg, and other seasoning, it makes a hearty mid-week meal. Nasi Goreng is often served with a fried egg, but I like to serve it with a boiled or poached egg, and a handful of crushed sprouted cashew nuts or a tablespoon of sauerkraut. The spices are mild, but you can increase the heat with a touch of fermented hot sauce.

Directions
Peel and dice onion.
- Crush 3 garlic cloves.
- Add ghee to a moderately heated pan or wok.
- Sauté onions for a few minutes.
- Add garlic and stir for 2 minutes.
- Add cooked rice and seasoning to the mixture.
- Stir fry for a few minutes until everything is well blended.
- Add a small amount of bone broth if necessary.
- When the rice is warm, remove from the heat.
- Serve with meat, a cooked egg, and garnish with crushed cashew nuts, sauerkraut, or hot sauce.
Recipe Note
This rice dish works with half a cup of rice or 1 cup; it depends on how much rice you want to consume. I like to add a small amount of bone broth to the stir fry rice to keep the rice moist, especially if the rice was cooked ahead of time.
