Our Ashitaba Powder is grown and air-dried by two of the premier organic and biodynamic growers in Northern California. As far as we know, we are the only company selling domestic, biodynamically grown ashitaba. Biodynamic farming is far more stringent than organic, hence our reference to "beyond organic" practices. Biodynamic farming sees the farm as a living, self-contained ecosystem, utilizing no outside inputs and focusing on nurturing soil health and nutrient density through a symbiotic relationship between the plants, animals and the farmer.
Ashitaba is perhaps one of the most nutrient-dense vegetables on the planet, containing more Vitamin B6 and B12 than your typical green vegetable. Studies indicate that it boosts the "immune" (detoxification) system, is diuretic, enhances stomach and intestine functions, and has anti-fungal properties. It also contains rich stores of potassium and manganese, which help ease diabetes, and it stimulates nerve growth factor (NGF), which is a protein that maintains the health connection between neurons and the brain.
It even has the power to rejuvenate your body’s cell properties, and many people claim they look younger after regular consumption of ashitaba.
In addition, the chalcones, a yellow pigment found in the ashitaba stem, is being intensively studied for its cell-regulating properties. We take special care to harvest the stems along with the leaves to insure the best nutrient-phytochemical profile.
Ashitaba has a clean, herbaceous, celery-like taste with warm, spicy notes. To use, put a teaspoon or so in a tea bag and steep in hot water for a soothing tea. Sprinkle on salads, eggs, rice and quinoa, buttered popcorn, steamed or roasted vegetables, fish or chicken. Add to smoothies, soups, stews, pasta, spaghetti sauce – really, anything you enjoy eating!
Our favorite way to use Ashitaba Powder is as a tea with a tablespoon of coconut milk and a teaspoon or so of honey. A dash of cinnamon on top is nice, too.
I love this Ashitaba powder. It tastes really great and I’ve noticed less bloating, slimming down to a healthier size, and overall more vitality. I keep reordering it because I love it so much. Thank you!
I am a 10 year pancreatic cancer survivor doing everything I can to stay healthy. I was reading Dr. Cowan's book, "Cancer & the Biology of Water" and came across his reference to Ashitaba as a promising substance in preventing & suppressing cancer growth. Further research revealed numerous journal articles outlining studies into Ashitaba. I put it in cereal, in soup & stews, and on cheese just before I add eggs to make a breakfast sandwich. Besides the obvious nutritional benefits, Ashitaba is also fueling my hope to continue my streak of good health and well being. With cancer, hope is a powerful force. Thank you again for making this product available.

Love ALL these powders. They are incredibly versatile.
I sprinkle on eggs, salads, Smoothies for sure.
It's a great way to have such a great variety of vegetable and ther powders without filling your fridge and then watching your expensive veggies wilt and get thrown out if you aren't able or don't need them in a dish right way.
So many things aren't available in winter. No worries, your powders are always there.
Kale, for those of you with thyroid issues which limits your consumption..... Not with this Kale powder!
It's a win win any way you look at it.
Recipes galore available too! YAY!
I am enjoying the Ashitaba Powder. I made the drink suggested on the package and it is very satisfying. I am confident it will also strengthen me. Thank you.
Everything I've ever ordered from the Garden is spectacular -- beautiful quality -- exciting tastes -- they carry the vibration of joy and healing -- these powders and products go beyond physical delight -- they connect you to the earth and the cosmos -- they sing and dance inside of you -- and then you find yourself singing and dancing more! Really! I'm not kidding! I've tried many of the vegetable powders and the ghee, soap, vinegar, olive oil, hot sauce, the flours, etc -- all, without question, incredible.
Food and friends are my medicine and Dr. Cowan’s products and team are both. I am grateful for all the sourcing information as it enhances the consumption. Best of all for me is that I can place my orders with a real human being by telephone.
ashitaba has added a new dimension to my array of plant food medicines. i drink it as a tea in the morning with a little bit of lemon and grey sea salt. grateful for the plant itself, the growing, and of course the sourcing & excellent packaging.
This product has really helped my stomach and digestive issues to settle down. It’s worth trying for irregularity, gastric discomfort and overall wellbeing.
I have been looking for a replacement company to buy Ashitaba from since the company I used before stopped selling it. I saw Dr.Cowan’s and I liked that it was grown in the USA, so I thought I would give it a try. When I received Dr. Cowan’s I was very pleased how it was packaged and how fresh it was. The taste was wonderful, too! I have found my replacement company!
I'm very happy with the Ashitaba powder. I put it in so many different foods and beverages and like how it blends in seamlessly. I also like the high nutrient value and that ashitaba shows tremendous potential in preventing and fighting cancer. I am a cancer survivor, nearly 10 years past a pancreatic cancer diagnosis and Whipple surgery and like the idea of a product that is natural, organic and has been consumed for centuries by people in a country with very low disease rates. Thank you for making this product available at a reasonable price.
I have been using these powders for a few years now. I have recommended them to all my healthy minded friends. I take the low ox greens daily. I do not add them to anything except a T of high polyphenol olive oil and savor the flavors. That also goes for the Ashitiba powder as well. I do a lot of research before I commit to a product and I believe in the health and vitality of these products.
My body craves ashitaba!! I even went so far as to purchase a plant!! I must say that my first 2 shipments were a much deeper color green. This one is very light green, seemingly just as potent though. I mix it in my morning grains or smoothie. Thank you for making ashitaba available to us all!! Jennifer

Here's a useful explanation about the color variance from our FAQ's:
"My powder looks lighter/darker than last time. Is it still fresh?
Yes, as a natural product, color variations from batch to batch are perfectly normal and, because we harvest in small batches, we have constant product turnover for maximum freshness. For example, our Three Beet Powder may have more or less yellow beets, making the powder darker or lighter in color, and our Ashitaba Powder may have a slightly more yellow or green color, depending on the time of year it’s harvested. In fact, with Ashitaba powder, the yellow hue indicates that more chalcones are in the product, which are currently being studied for their potential anticancer, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties."
I eat Ashitaba from Doctor Cowans garden every day except when I run out and I am waiting for my next shipment. I also put the sea vegetables, turmeric, low oxalate leafy greens, and any other veggie powder I have on hand in my food. I like the three beet powder but I ran out. I eat a wide variety of lots of different organic vegetables. I just had my blood work done and everything is perfect. Thank You Dr. Cowan for sharing your garden with us.
I really do like the slightly bitter flavor and often add it to my homemade pizza or avocado toast. 4 stars only because of the price…it’s a guilty pleasure for me!
Quality and taste 100 percent on point.
Quality and taste are amazing. You could never find quality even close to Dr. Cowan’s veggies in even the best of organic produce departments. Per serving way more cost effective then organic produce that is hard to trust. Especially during the winter months when local produce is out of season.
A regenerative Must
I find Ashitaba very healing, definately regenerative and scouring remnants of older (serious) wounds namely inside the skull and spine and likely more I’m unaware of.
A Very Awesome Product!

My experiences with your products continues to be excellent - I would (and, already did) recommend to others. I love that I can have veggies that are grown in nutrient-rich soil with the integrity that you are committed to providing. High quality, healthy veggies are a rare treat, unless you’re someone who loves to grow their own (I’m not). Also, your customer service is extraordinary - Beverly always responds and supports me with anything I’m needing. Thank you
